Self-Love
About
Although the artist strongly believes in love, love itself had never appeared in her work until the idea of self love. Unlike romantic love, self love felt deeper, quieter, and far more difficult to achieve. The work reflects the belief that the relationship we build with ourselves forms everything around us...our peace, our choices, and the way we connect with others.
To truly love others, one must first learn how to exist gently within themselves. Through this concept, self love becomes not an act of vanity, but a path toward healing, understanding, and emotional freedom.
Self-Love
This work represents both the physical and soulful state of mind connected to love and intimacy. Through the contrast of black and white, the painting reflects the balance between vulnerability and strength, passion and fear, light and darkness. Without self-love it becomes difficult to truly value ourselves enough to genuinely love and connect with others.
While exhibiting this piece in an art gallery in Athens, a friend and fellow artist, Dimitris Tsiggelis pointed out something that just like the black and white within the painting, life itself is a mixture of positive and negative emotions, and it is up to us to learn how to carry both.
